Todd Phillips’ Joker movie, which was released in 2019, was a huge success with over $1 billion in revenue. In addition, the leading actor of the movie, Joaquin Phoenix, took home the Best Actor Oscar for his outstanding acting. After all these successes, eyes were turned to the second movie of Joker.
What does Folie á Deux tell us?
After the success of the first movie, moviegoers waited for the sequel. To date, there has been no official announcement for Joker’s second film, but the director of the film has broken his silence. Todd Philips confirmed the sequel with a post on Instagram.
In the post, it was stated that Todd Philips wrote his second movie with Scott Silver, and the name of the movie was announced: Folie á Deux. This phrase, which means “madness for two” in French, has already excited moviegoers for the second movie. In addition to this photo, a frame where Phoenix read the script was also shared.
So what does the title of the movie tell us? Shared psychotic disorder or transferred delusional disorder known as “folie d deux” is the common name given to several syndromes based on the presence of similar psychotic symptoms between
two or more people. It is also described as two close people becoming a whole instead of two separate entities over the years. It is a matter of curiosity how this situation, which is usually seen among family members, will be transferred to the film. Of course, the name of the movie does not have to directly correspond to this meaning.
A Joker sequel also raised DC Universe questions. Will we see Bruce Wayne, who appeared in the first movie, as Batman in the future? Will this Batman be a completely new person or will the current Batman appear? Joker’s second movie will clear up these and many more questions.
So what do you guys think about the second movie, Joker? What do you think Madness for Two will offer us?
